A line finding assignment problem and rock fracture modelling

The paper deals with a stochastic stereologic problem of estimating fracture lines, given only the data at boreholes. We formulate an appropriate model. The problem is challenging since neither the lines (slope, intercept) are known, nor their number. We give an MCMC implementation where all the parameters are allowed to vary. We examine sensitivity to priors. All this is for an important case study arising in the risk assessment for storage of nuclear waste. Some extensions and open problems are also discussed.
