Currently planned study groups:

ArtinWedderburn study group.

Time: 2pm 3.30pm on Fridays.

Place: The RVC meeting room.

Organiser:
Raphael
BennettTennenhaus

Comments: We are going through the proof of the ArtinWedderburn theorem using Anderson and Fuller's book "Rings and Categories of Modules". On the way we are covering some other useful topics (which are not necessarily needed for the above proof, such as idempotents and Pierce decomposition theory).

Model theory of modules study group.

Time: 9am 11am on Thursdays.

Place: The small meeting room on level 8, near the taught student office.

Organiser:
Raphael
BennettTennenhaus

Comments: We are going through various topics using Jensen and Lenzing's book "Model Theoretic Algebra."
 Algebraic Geometry

Time: sporadic

Place: TBA

Organisers:
Amit
Shah and
Maxime
Fairon

Comments:
Currently, Maxime and I are working
through some of Hartshorne's Algebraic Geometry Chapter II. This
study group is very informal and switches between references. For
example, the study group started by working through EisenbudHarris
Geometry of Schemes but we switched to Hartshorne for more
formality. We typically work through the details until everyone is
convinced a no person left behind attitude. The study group began in
January 2016.
 DG Categories and Model Categories

Time: undecided (this study group may begin in Semester 2)

Place: TBA

Organisers:
Amit
Shah

Comments:
This study group will aim to give an introduction to DG
categories and model categories. The references have not been decided,
but there have been some suggestions: Keller's On differential graded
categories, Lurie's Appendix A.2 in his book Higher Topos Theory,
DwyerSpalinski's Homotopy theory and model categories. The study
group is likely to assume some basic category theory a good
background might be the MAGIC Category Theory. However, depending on
those involved we could certainly review some theory first.
