16 March	Zaq Coelho (York) Approaching rare events in dynamics Abstract. A rare event is a an event of measure zero. An ergodic dynamical system does not see these events. However, if we consider a neighbourhood of positive measure of the rare event then we may study how long it takes a typical orbit of the system to hit the neighbourhood. These times when suitably rescaled converge in distribution as the measure of the neighbourhood tends to zero (in some cases). I will describe some of the known results in this direction.
