MATH8001 Training in the Workplace

Also known as the Year in Industry or Work Placement, this module is intended to give students in their third year of a 4-year sandwich course the experience of employment in positions which allow them to apply their specialist knowledge and understanding, and to develop their transferable skills.

It is expected that, during employment, students will work on a project or projects relating to their degree subject. In practice, the School of Mathematics will assess the suitability of proposed placements on an individual basis before approval.

The increasing importance of the long-term value of a placement cannot be underestimated.

To quote the managing director of High Fliers (see external links opposite):

“New graduates who've not had any work experience during their time at university have little or no chance of landing a well-paid job with a leading employer”
