Example of the linear stability of an axisymmetric flux tube. This box represents a quarter of a nearly axisymmetric flux tube, with the axis of rotation in green along the edge of the box. The vertical magnetic field strength is represented in orange, and the kinetic energy of an exponentially growing mode is shown in the blue scale. The radial structure, reminiscent of the filamentary structure of sunspot penumbrae, is a result of the choice of numerical domain.
