Example of chaotic switching in a heteroclinic cycle. The trajectory in this fourth-order set of differential equations cycles between a periodic orbit and four equilibria. On this Poincare section, the four colours indicate which equilibrium point the trajectory will visit in the future. There is a clear separation between blue/black and red/cyan, while blue and black (and red and cyan) are well mixed.
