Student Attendance
This page explains
the policy on attendance and the consequences for non-attendance
applicable
to all students parented by the School of Mathematics for the academic
year 2011/12.
According to the Student Contract and the Partnership agreement, students are expected to attend all teaching activities, including lectures, practicals, tutorials, examples classes, workshops, and personal tutorials. Repeated unauthorised absences from teaching activities will lead to formal warnings being issued to students, and ultimately students can be excluded from the University as part of the University’s ‘Unsatisfactory Student Procedure’. In the School of Mathematics, for most modules students will report their attendance by signing an attendance sheet circulated during some of the lectures. Students are responsible to make sure that they sign the sheet. If a student is ill or cannot attend a teaching session, he or she is required to submit a request via the Portal to be excused. For details click here. Acceptable reasons for absences to be authorised include health problems, bereavement and serious personal difficulties. Traffic delays, attending family celebrations, paid employment or extra-curricular sports activities are normally regarded as unauthorised absences. Students who are ill for more than 5 working days, will be required to submit a medical note to the Undergraduate Office. In case of repeated absences, the following Escalation Process will be applied to all students parented by the School of Mathematics over the course of a full academic year.
