Special Circumstances - Illness

During Teaching

If you are ill or cannot attend a teaching session for any reasons, you are required to submit a request via the Portal to be excused. Please click here to find out how.
Requests for absences will be authorised or not depending on the reason provided and the frequency of the student's absence.

Acceptable reasons for absences to be authorised include health problems, bereavement and serious personal difficulties. Traffic delays, attending family celebrations, paid employment or extra-curricular sports activities are normally regarded as unauthorised absences.
Absences of more than five days will only be authorised upon receipt of a medical note or other supporting evidence.
Repeated unauthorised absence from teaching activities will lead to formal warnings being issued to students, and ultimately students can be excluded from the University as part of the University’s ‘Unsatisfactory Student Procedure’. If you miss a coursework deadline due to your illness or personal problem, please check the School's Policy on Coursework Extensions.

During Exams

Anyone who misses an examination for any reason should report this immediately to the Maths Taught Student Office (0113-3431426 or 0113 3435140).

IMPORTANT

If a student experiences unusually difficult circumstances due to medical or other personal problems, and would like the examiners to take these into consideration, the student has to submit to the Maths Taught Student Office a Special Circumstances Form by the following deadlines.

For Semester 1 exams	23rd of January 2012
For Semester 2 exams	31st of May 2012
For August 2010 Resit Exams	29th of August 2012

Whenever possible, requests should be supported by medical notes, or other written supporting evidence.

!!! If you have submitted a medical note or any other material about personal circumstances previously, these will only be taken into consideration if you specifically request this using the Special Circumstances Form. !!!
