Get Involved ! The School of Maths offers various opportunities for students to get involved in extra-curricular activities, and to gain experiences valuable to students' careers. The Staff Student Forum is made up of student representatives and some members of the academic staff. It meets regularly to discuss, among other things, the School's Action Plan on Learning & Teaching, and issues raised by students. Minutes from the Forum are sent to the School's Teaching and Learning Committee to consider actions where appropriate.
MINUTES OF MEETINGS MEMBERSHIP in 2011/12
REMIT The forum may discuss any matters related to undergraduate teaching and assessment. Its main tasks are to: • collect and analyse
feedback from students
• make recommendations on improving feedback • comment on the quality of teaching and the learning experience • contribute to reviews of individual modules and programmes of study • comment on the assessment methods used by the School GUIDELINES The forum will not discuss the performance of specific members of staff or students. Any complaints of this nature should be directed to the person in question, Course Coordinator or Director of Learning and Teaching. ELECTIONS are held at the beginning of the academic year. The
Maths Society is open to all members of the School of Mathematics,
undergraduates, postgraduates and staff alike. Their aim is to bring
Maths students together, to help each other with problems, and to have
fun through social events and sporting activities. Social events
include Otley Runs, club nights, curry nights, day trips and a Black
Tie Ball. They currently have successful football, netball and hockey
teams and are always looking to expand into different sports.
Being a member of the Maths
Society
is an easy way to meet people from your course. It is also an
opportunity to gain new skills as elections are held each year to fill
the positions of President, Treasurer and Sports Secretary.

![]() Every year the School of Maths
looks for volunteers to become
mentors for new incoming Maths students.
Our
peer
mentoring scheme is called
PAL, and Year 1 students meet in weekly sessions with their peer
mentors for support. Information will be announced and circulated
towards the end of each academic year.
The School of Mathematics
Admissions team are active in their effort to recruit undergraduates,
and Open Days are a huge part of this. Student volunteers are always
required to act as tour guides for prospective students or speak to
students and answer questions about their experiences in the School of
Maths. This is a great opportunity to make a difference to the school
and you will also be paid for the hours that you contribute. If you are
