Attendance Monitoring 2017/18 - Information for Staff
Code of Practice
  • If a student is ill or cannot attend a teaching session for any reasons, he or she is required to submit a request via Minerva to be excused. Students can find details of how to do this on the Mathematics Organisation on Minerva.
  • If a student misses a coursework/homework deadline, they may request an extension/exemption for the piece of work.  For coursework extensions up to 2 working days, students require the Lecturer's permission.  For a longer extension or exemption, they need to complete a form which they can find in the Maths Taught Student Office, or on the Mathematics Organisation on Minerva.

Monitoring of Attendance
  • Attendance will be monitored through paper registers for selected activities.  Registers will be placed in staff pigeonholes the Friday prior to the week the register is to be taken.  Completed registers should be returned to the Maths Taught Student Office as soon as possible after the teaching activity has taken place.
  • Data will be processed by the Maths Taught Student Office.
  • Lecturers are asked not to enter any data themselves. Lecturers are free to take and keep additional attendance records if they wish to do so.
  • Students with repeated absences on their record will be asked to see the Director of Student Education, or a deputy.  You can find out more about this here:

Resitting Students
  • Please note that students who are resitting modules internally should attend all scheduled teaching sessions for these modules as normal.
  • Students who are resitting modules externally should not attend teaching sessions.

Please see Heather in the Taught Student Office for further help with attendance related queries.
