Research Interests Harmonic analysisThough the roots of this subject go back to Fourier, this century has seen activity in many different areas. Commutative harmonic analysis overlaps with the theory of Banach algebras in the study of ideals of Banach algebras associated with locally compact abelian groups. This involves the close analysis of arithmetical and topological properties of sets in such a group. More recently, attention has turned to wavelets as replacements for the trigonometric functions in the representation of many classes of functions. Other Mathematical Interests Together with Professor Alexander V. Mikhailov , David Salinger is Book Reviews Editor for the Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society . LecturingA choice of three topics--Knots, Coding Messages, Infinities--is provided for lectures to schools. |
