Total and Partial Orders in
O-minimal Structures and an Application in Mathematical Economics

O-minimality has provided a powerful and rich framework for "tame" topology over the real numbers and has seen applications in several areas both within and outside of mathematics. We begin with a brief introduction for those not familiar with o-minimality. Then we describe our work on total and partial orders definable in an o-minimal structure. We conclude with an application to the theory of preference relations and utility in mathematical economics.
