A gentle approach to Harrington non-splitting, and beyond

Abstract:

I will outline the basic ideas behind Harrington's original
non-splitting theorem for the Turing degrees. Then I will present
some recent work of myself and S.B. Cooper, which uses the
Harrington techniques to prove further results both about the
structure of the Turing and the Enumeration Degrees.
