3 p.m.: Opening of LMS meeting by Professor John Toland, LMS President
Welcome by Professor Michael Arthur, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds
3.15 p.m.: U. Haagerup: Random matrices and operator algebras
4.15 p.m.: Tea
5 p.m.: N. J. Kalton: An application of classical Banach space theory to partial differential equations
6.30 for 7 p.m.: Dinner in the Great Woodhouse Room, University House

The LMS provided some funds for paying expenses of LMS members and UK postgraduates attending the meeting.

The LMS regional meeting was followed by an associated Workshop on Functional Analysis, July 4th-7th

Additional speakers included Michel Crouzeix (Rennes), Ken Davidson (Waterloo, Canada), Alexander Ya. Helemskii (Moscow), Tom Ransford (Laval and Oxford), Thomas Schlumprecht (Texas A and M), Hanne Schultz (Odense), Steen Thorbjørnsen (Odense), and Lutz Weis (Karlsruhe).

Accommodation for some of those attending was arranged in Tetley Hall. Here is a list of alternative hotels.

There was a display of LMS books in the Reading Room on Level 9 of the School of Mathematics during the meeting.
