Meeting of NBFAS


A meeting of the North British Functional Analysis Seminar (NBFAS) was held in Fylde College, Lecture Room 2 at the University of Lancaster from 12 noon to 5.30 p.m., on Saturday 1st March 2003. A buffet lunch was provided at a notional cost of £5 per person.

There were two talks at 1.45 p.m. and 3 p.m. by Prof. Françoise Lust-Piquard of the Université de Cergy-Pontoise, France, on ``Examples of Lp bounds for the square function of Riesz transforms, (1) in non-discrete settings (Gaussian measure on Rn, Heisenberg groups) and (2) discrete settings (the Cantor group, Zn): the Stinespring factorization method''.

In addition there were two other talks:

12 noon Prof. Alan Hopenwasser of the University of Alabama, USA, on ``Subalgebras of the Cuntz C*-algebras'';

4.30 p.m. Prof. Cho-Ho Chu of Queen Mary College, London, on ``Harmonic functions on groups''.
