UK Nonlinear News Issue 79, June 2015

  • The MSc in Mathematical Medicine and Biology at the University of Nottingham is open for applications to start in September 2015.
  • The meeting Non-equilibrium statistical physics and emergence in biological systems
will be held on 9th and 10th of July 2015 at the University of Manchester, funded by the EPSRC Network on Emergence and Physics far from Equilibrium. The meeting will have four sessions, half a day each. Each will focus on one aspect of non-equilibrium statistical physics and emergence in biological systems:
    1. Models of epidemics (9th July, morning) speakers: Romualdo Pastor-Satorras (Barcelona), David Sirl (Nottingham)
    2. Evolutionary dynamics and population genetics (9th July, afternoon) speakers: Richard Blythe (Edinburgh), Madeleine Opitz (Munich)
    3. Stochastic thermodynamics and single-molecule experiments (10th July, morning) speakers: Felix Ritort (Barcelona), Andreas Engel (Oldenburg)
    4. Stochastic patterns (10th July, afternoon) speakers: Saul Ares (Madrid), Axel Rossberg (Belfast)
