Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Center for Chaos and Turbulence Studies has a theoretical and/or experimental opening at post-doctoral level for research in classical and quantum chaos, non-linear chemical dynamics, hydrodynamical and chemical turbulence, and complex systems in physics, chemistry and biology. The research is carried out at the Niels Bohr Institute, the Department of Chemistry at the University of Copenhagen, and the Physics Institute at the Technical University of Denmark, often in close collaboration with other groups, such as the astrophysics, nuclear, particle and condensed matter physics, chemistry, biology and neural networks groups. Research Associate

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable for three years from January 1st 1996 or shortly thereafter. The project will involve an investigation into the estimation, analysis and synthesis of nonlinear systems in the frequency domain. The study will be based on a Volterra series representation and identified nonlinear models and will involve a mix of theoretical analysis and the practical application of the algorithms to engineering systems. Applicants should have a good honours degree and should hold or expect to hold a PhD in Control Engineering, Signal Processing, Mathematics or a related field. Experience in Volterra series and the anlaysis of nonlinear systems in the frequency domain would be highly desirable.

Commencing salary within the range
GBP 14,317 - GBP 17,466 pa according to experience.

Research Fellowships

The council intend to elect to a number of Research Fellowships, open to men and women, tenable for four years from 1st October 1997. Fellowships are restricted to graduates of, or research students in, a University of the British Isles who will have completed not more than four years of full-time research (or part-time equivalent) by 1st October 1996.

Junior Research Fellowships

The Governing Body of Christ's College, Cambridge, invites applications for two Research Fellowships, tenable for a period of four years from 1st October 1997. Members of any University in the British Isles who, by 31st December 1996, will have completed three but not more than thirteen terms of full-time reearch are eligible. Candidates should normally not have passed their 28th birthday by Monday, 4th November 1996.

Stipends are on the scale GBP 12,674 to GBP 14,317 (currently under review) with a reduction of approximately GBP 800 p.a. for a Fellow living in College. Research Fellows are also entitled to a free room, seven free meals per week, and a commons allowance.
