Postdoctoral position in forecasting of complex nonlinear systems at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, The University of Western Australia, Perth, Australia. A postdoctoral position of up to two years will be advertised shortly. The position is funded by an Australia Research Council grant held by Assoc. Prof. Kevin Judd (University of Western Australia) and Prof. Leonard A. Smith (London School of Economics). The project concerns aspects of modelling and forecasting complex nonlinear systems, in particular the effects of nonlinearity and model error in weather and climate forecasting. A background in nonlinear dynamical systems theory and a willingness to learn and develop new mathematical and statistical techniques is desirable. The project will involve working with operational weather forecasting models and climate models, therefore the ability to design experiments, organise large amounts of data, and use new programming and data analysis tools essential. Salary will be in the range AU$57724-AU$61963 p.a. for candidates with an appropriate PhD. For further information contact Kevin.Judd@uwa.edu.au
