----------------------------------------------- Two Studentships are available at the School of Computing of the University of Paisley: 1) Emergence of Dynamical Order The project is aimed to investigation of the emergence of rhythmic activity in networks of interacting individuals. Broad range of physical, biological and social networks will be considered, with particular impact on emergence of collective coherent behaviour in social insect colonies. Some experience in dynamical, especially chaotic, systems and maps and their synchronization is desirable. 2) Reaction-Diffusion Neural Nets This project is aimed to investigation of the ability of reaction-diffusion systems to process information. Self-organizing phenomena of pattern formation in spatially-extended systems and their applications will be studied. Some experience in reaction-diffusion systems and neural networks is desirable. For both projects, knowledge of basic nonlinear dynamics and good computational skill are essential.
