• Professor John Brindley (Leeds) was awarded an OBE in the New Year's honours list for his services to higher education.
• The University of Surrey will be awarding an Honorary Doctorate to Professor Jerry E. Marsden of CalTech in the June Graduation ceremony to be held on 16 June.

• Dr Frank Kwasniok has been appointed to a Lectureship in Applied Mathematics at the University of Exeter. His research interests are atmospheric and climate dynamics, nonlinear dynamical systems and nonlinear time series analysis.
