Appointments News
The following have been appointed as Professors of Applied Mathematics:
- A. FOKAS, formerly of Loughborough University.
- P. HALL, currently at Manchester, to start in mid-summer.
B. ZEGARLINSKI and J. ELGIN have been promoted to personal chairs.
The Department of Mathematical and Computing Sciences has recently appointed
two new Lecturers in Mathematics:

PETER B. ASHWIN received his PhD under Ian Stewart at Warwick
in 1991. Since, he has held a Royal Society ESEP Research
Fellowship at Marburg, an EPSRC Fellowship at Warwick and an EU
HCM Fellow INLN, Nice. His research interests include:
symmetric chaos, coupled oscillators, syncronisation of coupled
lasers, symmetries of attractors, chaotic advection.

PETER E. HYDON received his PhD under Tim Pedley at Cambridge
in 1991. Since, he has held a Wellcome Trust Research
Fellowhsip at Leeds and a Lectureship in Mathematics at
Northumbria. His research interests include: physiological
fluid dynamics, chaotic advection, symmetries of differential
equations, Hamiltonian dynamics, control of time-delay systems.
