XVIIth UK Institute for
Theoretical High Energy Physicists
26 August to 13 September 1996: University of Durham
Wojtek Zakrzewski writes:
Perhaps you could advertise our Institute,
the first two weeks of which may be of interest
to many readers of Nonlinear News.
I hope that all "nonlinear" people who would like to come
do come for the second week when Nick Manton's lectures
will provide a focus for our interaction.
The aim of the Institute is to create a research environment in which
participants can collaborate, discuss and initiate research, and learn about
recent developments in theoretical particle physics.
Programme:
The following lecture courses have been arranged with the aim of giving a
pedagogic presentation of topics at the frontiers of current research
suitable for both experts and non-experts alike.
- Week 1 (26 August to 30 August) ( Duality,...)
- Luis ALVAREZ-GAUME,
Kumar NARAIN,
Paul TOWNSEND
- Week 2 (2 September to 6 September) ( Solitons in Field Theory,
Lattices )
- Nick MANTON,
Akira UKAWA
- Week 3 (9 September to 13 September) ( Phenomenology,
Approaches to QCD )
- Yuri DOKHSHITZER,
Toni PICH
The lecture courses will
be supplemented by seminars and colloquia covering a broad spectrum of particle
theory and mathematical physics.
Accommodation:
The entire Institute will take place within St. John's College of the
University of Durham. The College is close by the Cathedral and the centre
of the city. Participants are invited to bring their families and there are
some limited facilities for children.
Funding and Costs:
The Institute is funded by PPARC.
For UK participants the cost of travel (equivalent to British Rail's Saver Ticket
fares) together with full board accommodation will be provided by the Institute.
For non-UK participants the charge for full board and accommodation is
$32/day.
We regret that travel and accommodation for families cannot be funded by the
Institute. Children of 11 years
and under are half price. We hope to organise a social programme
for families and participants.
