Oxford-Princeton Workshop on Multiscale Problems

By John Ball

This workshop, held in Oxford from 10-11 May 2002, was the first to take place as part of the Oxford-Princeton Mathematical Research Collaboration. It was also linked with a related workshop on Computing Across Different Scales held at Warwick University on 13 May. The workshop was highly interdisciplinary, with speakers from several different departments (Mathematics, Computing, Chemical Engineering, Materials, Biophysics) in Princeton and Oxford as well as from outside, and this led to a lively interaction between those working on multiscale problems from different perspectives. For the final programme and abstracts see http://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/~ball/workshopMay2002.html.

Regular workshops forming part of the collaboration are planned, the next being one on Quasiconvexity and its Applications in Princeton from 14-16 November (see http://www.mis.mpg.de/conferences/quasiconvexity2002/).
