Skew-Products and synchronization of coupled systems

12-13th July 1999, University of Surrey

By John R. Terry

This was a joint meeting of two LMS Scheme 3 groups, the Skew-Products group coordinated by Matt Nicol and the Southeastern bifurcations group coordinated by David Chillingworth. Of the nine presentations there were three invited seminars given by participants from the United States: George Sell (Minnesota), Edgar Knobloch (UCal - Berkeley) and Greg VanWiggeren (Georgia Tech). There were also two speakers from European Community institutions, Ana Dias (Porto) and Gian-Italo Bischi (Urbino).

The workshop was attended by 30 people with participants from institutions including Southampton, Surrey, QMW, UCL, Brunel, Warwick, Cambridge and UMIST, with participation of postgraduates from several institutions including a talk by Giovanni Santoboni (UCL).

The organisers thank the LMS for providing a Scheme 2 Visitors grant, which funded the visit of Professor Sell to the UK as well as the Centre for Interdisciplinary Nonlinear Mathematics of the University of Surrey who helped make possible an excellent two day meeting.
