The first meeting of the Dynamics of Skew Products Network was held at UMIST on Friday 14th November. Approximately 40 people attended from the universities of Manchester, Surrey, Porto, Warwick, UCL, QMW and UMIST. It was good to have 7 postgraduate students in the audience, all working in pure or applied nonlinear dynamics. The speakers were Professor Broomhead (UMIST, The dynamics of randomly forced systems), Dr Ashwin (Surrey, Generic drifts and noncompact symmetries), Dr Beck (QMW, Scaling limits of skew-products - from the Perron-Froebenius to the Fokker-Planck equation) and Professor Pollicott (Manchester, Stable ergodic properties of some group extensions). The talks were interesting and well received. There was enthusiasm for the next meeting, which will be held at the University of Surrey on January 23rd.
The organisers would like to thank the LMS for funding the meeting.
