Inaugural meeting

This inaugural meeting 'Quantitative Immunology' marked the beginning of the QuanTI Initial Training Network project and was the first of a series of meetings to be held during the life of the Network. This meeting was organised and hosted by NUI Maynooth, Ireland.

The objectives of the meeting were:

(1) each partner to present their current research as well as to reveal their plans for the individual research projects they will be undertaking on the QuanTI network;

(2) to discuss and plan Network events of the first year;

(3) to make an overview on ITN management: general rules and requirements on recruitment guidelines on scientific and financial reporting etc.

Work programme

The work programme of the meeting included one and a half days of formal talk sessions, complemented by discussions. The focus was on network research where network researchers from different partner institutions presented their on-going research. The coordinator Dr Grant Lythe gave an overview talk about the overall aim and objectives of the Network. Each partner's key scientists within the Network then presented what their individual research projects will be and how they are related to the network goals.

Topics covered included: T and B cell development, T and B cell homeostasis, T and B cell differentiation, T cell and antigen presenting cell interactions, repertoire diversity, experimental techniques in immunology and computational and mathematical modelling in immunology.

This meeting provided a unique opportunity for the partners to meet and exchange ideas on research topics and potential collaborations.

After the formal sessions there was a Supervisory Board management meeting where the plans for the summer training schools and complementary skills training events were discussed.
